After Deadpool & Wolverine grossed almost $1.5 billion, it was clear Deadpool was returning to the big screen no matter what. Producer and star Ryan Reynolds could tease it, downplay his role, or call the character a supporting player, but the New Deadpool movie is happening.
Reynolds made that point this week at Fanatics Fest in New York, telling the crowd, “There’s stuff upcoming. There’s eventually, you know, remotely another Deadpool film. It’s going to be great.” That short confirmation aligns with reports that the project is in early development, with Deadline noting there is currently no writer or director attached.
Hints about the story
Reynolds also suggested the next entry will dig into corners of the character fans haven’t yet seen on screen. “There’s a few really deep cuts that I think are missing behind the movies,” he said, explicitly praising comic writers whose work he admires.

Where the movie could fit in the MCU
The prevailing theory is that Deadpool (and possibly Wolverine) will reappear as part of the MCU’s next big phase. If they don’t show up in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday, the other main candidate is 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, two installments expected to help launch Marvel’s Mutant Saga.
Those Avengers films are being framed as the start of a new era for mutants in the MCU, so a strategic Deadpool return would make sense. Whether his comeback is seeded in Doomsday footage, revealed through a future scheduling announcement, or saved for a Secret Wars tie-in is still unknown.
