Pixel Watch 5: familiar hardware under a similar shell
Google’s Pixel Watch 5 appears set to mirror last year’s design, and a fresh Google Play Console listing — reportedly tied to the codename “godric” — suggests much of the internals will be carried over. The listing points to Qualcomm’s SW5100 platform, the same foundation Google used for the Pixel Watch 4.
Old CPU and GPU, new name
The Play Console entry specifies a quad-core setup of Cortex-A53 CPUs clocked at 1.7GHz and an Adreno 702 GPU running at 1GHz, matching last year’s numbers. Those specs line up with the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 2 identity the chip is commonly given, but the CPU and GPU themselves trace back to the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 introduced in 2022.
The Gen 2 package, which powers recent Pixel watches, mainly brought refinements like satellite messaging, improved GPS accuracy and better power efficiency rather than a major performance jump. That makes comparisons with rivals such as Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 9 — which uses the newer Snapdragon Wear Elite — more pointed as smartwatch makers push on-device AI features.
Memory boost could matter more than the SoC
Where the Pixel Watch 5 may actually change the performance equation is memory. The listing shows 3GB of RAM, up from the 2GB Google has used so far. That extra RAM could give Wear OS 7 and Gemini Intelligence more breathing room for multitasking and on-device models, improving the smartwatch performance that matters for AI-driven features.

Google is expected to reveal the Pixel Watch 5 alongside the Pixel 11 series on August 12, leaving questions about pricing and how Pixel Watch 2026 AI ambitions will balance against largely carried-over Pixel Watch specs.
While Google appears to be focusing on hardware refinements, Samsung is taking a different approach by investing heavily in AI-powered health coaching and personalized fitness insights for future Galaxy Watch models.
